Small Powerful Changes
Nancy
We live in an overachieving society that loves to implement major change without realistic timeframes. I saw it continuously in the corporate world – massive change with short deadlines causing people to continuously work overtime. That tendency can spill over into your personal life too as you mirror the example that’s been set for you. Major change can be difficult to implement and take a long time to achieve. Trying to accomplish too much in a short amount of time can set you up for overwhelm, discouragement, frustration, and ultimately failure.
Changes don’t need to be enormous to have a significant impact on your life. You’ll be much more successful if you make small, independent changes or break bigger goals down into small, achievable steps.
Here’s a technique for implementing continuous small changes which result in generous benefits:
• make a list of things you do that drag you down or drain your energy
• each month stop doing one thing on the list
• for each thing you stop doing, start doing something you love or have wanted to do
• each month make a written note of the changes you’ve made
Periodically stop, review your notes, and reflect on the difference these small changes have made in your life. Congratulate yourself for the actions you’ve taken and be sure to celebrate your success along the way.
Wishing you small changes, many successes, and frequent celebrations!
Until next time…
Nancy
