About Podcasting

Welcome to podcasting with My Life Compass! A podcast is a tool that subscribes to and automatically updates audio blogs (like CoachCasts) from right inside iTunes or another program of your choice.

While browsing the CoachCasts™ or Compass MAPs™, you will see two links in the right column: one says “iTunes” and the other “RSS”. If you are brand new to podcasting, we encourage you to go the iTunes route.

iTunes

First, you must make sure you have iTunes installed on your computer (it is available as a free download at http://www.apple.com/itunes/).

Once the installation process is complete, you can subscribe to the podcast by simply clicking the “iTunes” button on the Compass MAPs™ or CoachCasts™ pages. iTunes will then add this podcast to your library. In the “Library” listing in iTunes, the podcast can be found under “Podcasts”. The first file should have already begun downloading. We encourage you to take a look at the podcast settings (using the button at the bottom of that screen) to customize your podcast experience.

As an example, Create a Playlist for all Compass CoachCasts™. You can name it “Compass CoachCasts”. Now in your PodCast option right click the “My Life Compass - Coachcasts™” and add to playlist. Simply select Compass CoachCasts and YOU’RE DONE!. Everytime a new CoachCast™ is posted you’ll be notified! Now go and do the same for the Compass MAP!™

RSS - Really Simple Syndication*

RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts in a standardized format.[2] An RSS document (which is called a “feed”, “web feed”[3], or “channel”) contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays.[3]

The benefit of RSS is the aggregation of content from multiple Web sources in one place. RSS content can be read using software called an “RSS reader”, “feed reader” or an “aggregator“, which can be web-based or desktop-based. A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published once and viewed by many different programs. The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed’s link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.
