Fate and Fitness – Three Ideas to Change Your Life

September 3rd, 2008
Laura Fenamore

What is it that creates our life span? Is it the three Fates, as the Ancient Greeks believed? One who starts the thread of your life, one who guides it, and one who in the end cuts it off? Is it simply the will and whim of a Higher Power? Or do we have far more input in our own longevity than we dare, or care, to admit?

Here’s to TOTALLY ROCKIN HEROES

September 2nd, 2008
Susan Kim

We have some friends in town who just completed what’s called a Channel Swim. If you’re not familiar with this, it is an open water swim where you start from one island and swim to another. In this case it is the Maui Channel Swim, an event that starts from the island of Lanai and finishes on Maui. The distance is about 9 miles and our friends are on a team of six who are swimming as a relay.

Some people think they’re CRAZY!
I think they’re AMAZING!

Based on my own experience with open water swimming - it is NOT easy.
You have to contend with the waves, the current, the wind and the depth (which personally freaks me out!). And then there are the critters (like sharks) that you hope won’t come up from under you and say “hello.”

Swimming the Channel is not only a physical challenge, it is definitely a MENTAL one as well.

Watching the Olympics last month, I saw this phenomenon happening again and again. . .

So this post is simply to say “You ROCK!”
To anyone that has faced their fear and beat it.
To anyone that has beaten the odds.
To anyone that has done something that many others are unwilling to do.
To anyone that has been called crazy and persevered.
To anyone that has overcome a physical challenge with mental strength.

You TOTALLY ROCK!
You’re a HERO!
And an INSPIRATION.

With Thanks,
Susan

You want to do something that speaks to you. Intuition does help but sometimes you just can’t hear the voice that tells you exactly what you are here on earth to do. You need a change but don’t know where to begin.  (more…)

Disguised in a Fat Suit - Hiding in Plain Sight

August 19th, 2008

With the wealth of real opportunities and real solutions to weight loss in our nation, we must be surprised to find that we are literally the heaviest people on earth right now. There are so many reasons we can come up with to find the underlying causes for this – we don’t have to think very hard. For example, the predominant use of High Fructose Corn Syrup and other sweeteners, the lack of living foods in our every-day foodplans, the busy, busy, buy lives we lead (that often lead straight to the fast-food line). But really none of these addresses the deeper issues of WHY we choose to be obese. (Admitting that it is a choice is even part of the problem – OR the solution. (more…)

Lack the Energy To Reach Your Goals?

Energy is a valuable resource that we need to get things done. We all want to wake up refreshed and ready to face any challenge the day brings. We all want to run towards our goals.

The problem is we have many challenges and we want out goals TODAY, or at least very soon. We get impatient and disappointed. Our energy levels go down. (more…)

Sometimes Life Makes You Wait

Life has a timing all of its’ own. It can make us impatient and compare ourselves to others. We can feel disappointed in ourselves for not reaching our goals set for specific time frames. Society has a way of setting firm milestones that we all “should” achieve. For instance, not being married by age thirty, not having the first baby by age 35, not having the dream house/car/career by age 40. It can stir up frustration and discontent, but it doesn’t have to.  (more…)

Losing to Win - It’s a Family Affair

August 5th, 2008

As any parent can tell you, the back-to-school season is only nano-seconds away.  New backpacks, notebooks, sneakers, and oh yeah, lunchboxes.  I wonder if we give what we plan to put inside those lunchboxes (and, ultimately, into our kids) half as much thought as which Disney character or pop singer graces the outside?  (more…)
