“We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone … and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something.” Sandra Day O’Connor
Yesterday I picked up my computer that had been in the shop for repairs. As I walked away I realized how fortunate I am to have an experienced, knowledgeable person in my life who is great to work with and can help me fix any type of techie issue.
The more I thought about it the more I realized that he is just one of many stalwart souls in my life supporting me every day in all kinds of ways. The Charter repair person who takes care of my internet problems, the live chat operator who solves my software issue, the seamstress who alters my clothes, the grocery clerk who cheerfully bags my food, and my dog sitter who bails me out on last minute travels. The list goes on and on. All people who come together in an almost invisible web to help me create something – my life.
A myriad of individuals weave together to allow me to live more easily. As tough and independent as I think I am, I know I couldn’t do it without this community of people that I often take for granted.
Books speak about our “Tribe” – those people who ‘have our backs’ and on whom we can count on. This tapestry of support surrounding me each and every day is exactly that – my “Tribe”.
Each of us has a “Tribe”. Every one of us has a community of support helping us in small and big ways. We may not even see them, as in the paper deliverer or the mail carrier, because they operate on different schedules. We may see them and even interact with them briefly like the grocery stocker or movie attendant but take their efforts for granted. We may have more in-depth conversations with them as I do with my cat sitter, and yet, not truly appreciate how much we depend on their support.
It takes courage to see we are not alone in this world. To be totally aware that we are surrounded by an amazing web of support. It takes courage to be grateful for and tap into our “Tribe” so we can accomplish what we want in our life.
Be courageous!
Warmly,
Megan
