Give Yourself a Pat on the Back

October 13th, 2008
Helaine Iris

As a business and life coach I hear it all. From the trials and tribulations of business ownership to the juggle and struggle of maintaining balance in a 21st century life - it’s universal. You are working your tail off to support yourself and live your dream. Knowing what it takes to keep a business thriving can sometimes make you wonder why anyone goes into business for themselves. It reminds me of childbirth, no woman EVER says she’s willing to have another baby in the throws of labor, but guess what - the population keeps growing. AND, likewise, small businesses keep growing as well. (more…)

How to Honor our Precious Life and Precious Body

October 3rd, 2008
Laura Fenamore

As almost all of the world’s population knows, September 11th, 2008 marked the 7th anniversary of the fall of the Twin Towers. After many years of living in California, I happened to be home visiting my family in New York City when 9/11 happened. The shock of losing so many souls only a few miles away from where I was standing that morning took my breath away.

Seven years later, it’s still a healing in progress for many of us. Indeed, the scar that the towers falling left is only starting to heal as the foundation of the new Freedom Tower is laid out.

If you live anywhere but under a rock it’s hard to avoid the recent economic reality we find ourselves in as a nation. Regardless of your political affiliation it’s overwhelming trying to decipher what it all means and stressful wondering if it’s going to be ok. Ways to GET EXCITED

September 29th, 2008
Susan Kim

As promised, here are some simple and quick ways to harness your creativity and GET EXCITED!
With the above, the idea is to do something that you normally would NOT do, have fun with it and open your imagination to possibilities outside the box.

1.  WRITE - This is particularly helpful if you’re NOT a writer. Simply write a letter, write in a journal or write a short one line poem. For business, come up with a tagline or jingle.

2.  READ - a magazine that is out or your usual genre or industry. Fresh ideas come from fresh places. Take a brief journey outside of your comfort zone.

3.  LEARN - something new. Take an adult continuing education class. Exercising the mind is an important component to staying sharp and innovative.

4.  DANCE - It’s amazing how powerful movement can be to your mind and soul. Put on your favorite tune and jump, move and sway to the music. See what ideas pop up in your head.

5.  PUZZLES are another great way to exercise your brain. Whether it’s a crossword, sudoku or a logic problem, this one is as easy as looking in your local paper. It is quite relaxing and may give you enough space to conjure up new thoughts and ideas.

A Personal Share:
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I joined a book club. The READING has gotten me excited! I have been reading a lot of mysteries lately which has definitely sparked a different way of thinking. . . it’s unleashed the “sleuth” in me!

Try one of these on some time this week and share your EXCITED experience with us!

Make Happiness Yours,
Susan

Susan Kim

EVERYONE is creative in some way; it just manifests itself in differently in each of us. Some create beauty through the arts, others bring a fresh innovative idea to business and still others have an intuitive knack for coming up with an original solution to conflict.

Creativity shows up with almost every decision we make each day. For example, deciding what to wear, how dishes are stacked on the shelf or what route to take to work. Each person has the ability to create, the challenge is tapping into that creativity when you want and need it. (more…)
